Gr 8/9 French homework

Some classes have there copy of the play we are reading this year.  Homework in French is simple, read the play 3-4 nights per week for 5 minutes each time.  The more it is done, the better.  If the reading at home is never done, the work later in the year will probably become difficult.
We do lots of talking in French, we will be reading the play as a class and in groups,  I want students to read it at home well so they can start to see language patterns and they are seeing how words are spelled.

Gr 7 Math

We have been working on multiples and lowest common multiples.  We have also started to talk about what a fraction is and how, how to create equivalent fractions and how to compare fractions with different  denominators.
There is not lots of homework assigned, any extra work you can do at home is appreciated.  It can be multiplication facts, baking with your child (they can use fractions).  Showing them the different sizes in wrenches and how lots of fractions have different denominators or anything else you can think of that is math related that you can do with your child.

Who is looking at this blog????????????????????????????

I am wondering how many students or parents are looking at the blog this year.  Could you leave a brief comment that you are looking?  It would give me a better idea if this way to communicate with parents is working.
Thanks

1st marks for Gr 7 and 9

The first marks have been entered for Gr 7 Math and French, as well as Gr 9 French,  Take a look at the parent portal to see the marks.  Please look at the portal frequently so there are no surprises when it comes to the report card.  If your child is missing any work in the future, please ask them about it and it is there responsibility to get caught up.  I am trying to teach them how to be accountable for their learning and to become a more responsible young adult.  I believe it's a skill that will last them a lifetime.

Gr 7 and 8 French day 1

Students were challenged to speak only in French.  Some found it difficult but realized it is possible.

Math day 2

We continued with multiples and talked about more divisibility rules.

Wednesday 7 September 2016

Grade 7 math

Students need to bring a hilroy notebook or a duotang with paper by Friday, Sept 9.  We will need them to start our daily math.

Math day 1

We talked about multiples and divisibility rules of 2,3,5,6 and 10.  We also completed the multiplication chart.

What do you think?

I have read some stuff about assigning homework vs not and letting the students having the nights to do what they need to be successful the next day.  I am wondering if any of you have any thoughts on the matter.  I am now seeing the homework side as a teacher and as a parent.  What do you think?
